ASC In-Service: Medication Safety Evaluation

Purpose
The purpose of this activity is to enable the learner to increase their knowledge of the AORN guidelines for medication safety.

Overview 
This module will help the surgical team understand and implement the AORN “Guideline for medication safety”. It covers safe medication processes and how to identify challenges that may contribute to medication errors and the safeguards to take to mitigate risk for medication errors. Guidance is also provided for when the medication compounding rules that apply in the perioperative setting and define the perioperative nurse’s role in compounding medications and medication reconciliation. This module includes a Power Point presentation; an interactive educational game; pod cast; a case study; an AORN Journal article and Quick View.

  1. Identify when the medication compounding rules apply in the perioperative setting
