The purpose of this activity is to provide the learner with knowledge specific to the safe administration of moderate sedation analgesia.
This module will help the surgical team understand and implement the AORN “Guideline for safe administration of moderate sedation/analgesia” including the registered nurse’s scope of practice, and the elements of a preoperative patient assessment for whom moderate sedation is planned. Learn the appropriate monitoring of the patient undergoing moderate sedation and identify steps to ensure safe administration, including how to recognize and rescue a patient who has slipped into a deeper level of sedation than intended.
