This webinar reflects the newest edition of the AORN Guideline. There is a webinar for every new or updated Guideline that is released.
Overview: The Guideline for Instrument Care and Cleaning provides guidance to the perioperative RN cleaning surgical instruments, including point-of-use treatment, transport, decontamination, inspection, and general care of reusable medical devices (eg, surgical instruments). Guidance is also provided for selection of cleaning chemicals (eg, detergent, enzymatic, disinfectant), selection of decontamination equipment, monitoring and controlling water quality, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) that must be worn during cleaning and care of instruments. The updated guideline features changes in interdisciplinary team membership when determining practices for instrument care and cleaning, water quality parameters and a water management program, supplying IFUs in a format the user can read and understand, and more.
Learning outcomes:
1) Discuss significant changes to guideline recommendations
2) Describe examples of guideline key takeaways in practice
3) Discuss implementation strategies for guideline updates
To earn the 1.0 contact hour, the learner must listen to the webinar and the Evaluation.
