Outcome
The learner will have the knowledge and confidence to implement the evidence-based practices and recommendations from the AORN Guideline for Prevention of Hypothermia to measure the patient’s body temperature, select methods for the prevention or treatment of unplanned hypothermia, and select the warming interventions.
Objectives
Upon completion of this module, the participant should be able to:
- Identity the physiologic implications related to the development of hypothermia in the perioperative environment.
- Identify perioperative nursing considerations regarding the selection of temperature monitoring sites and methods.
- Differentiate passive insulation and active warming methods.
- Identify evidence-based recommendations related to implementation of various warming interventions.
