Outcome
The learner will have the knowledge and confidence to implement the evidence-based practices and recommendations from the AORN Guideline for Care of the Patient Receiving Moderate Sedation/Analgesia related to assessing patient suitability for moderate sedation/analgesia; providing continuous care of the patient, providing patient/family education, and identifying policy and educational issues related to RN-administration.
Objectives
Upon completion of this module, the participant should be able to:
- Identify criteria for determining patient suitability for moderate sedation/analgesia.
- Identify the perioperative RN’s role in continuous care of the patient receiving moderate sedation/analgesia.
- Identify patient discharge criteria.
- Identify policy and educational issues related to RN-administered moderate sedation/analgesia.
