Overview:
Patient throughput, safety, and satisfaction are important elements of operational efficiency. All team members are responsible for patient preparation and throughput. Opportunities exist to improve patient safety, improve the coordination of care, minimize delays and waste, increase OR room utilization, and enhance the perioperative experience for the patient and family, as well as perioperative team members. This session will provide resources to optimize perioperative flow and operational efficiency with an emphasis on safe patient preparation, starting surgeries on time (first case starts), and minimizing room turnover time.
Outcomes:
- Describe how to improve operational processes in the Perioperative areas
- Discuss components in the AORN Perioperative Efficiency Tool Kit
- Discuss how a perioperative RN can implement changes to improve the Team's (patient, surgeon, staff) experience during surgical intervention.
To earn the 1.5 contact hour, the learner must listen to the webinar and complete the Evaluation.
